Survey Trends – End of Year Update

On the December 5th, 2024, Annual VHCA Members Meeting, Vermont Survey & Certification provided an update on current trends in surveys:

CMS Updates Survey Process for Nursing Facilities

On November 18th, CMS released “Significant revisions to enhance quality and oversight of the LTC Survey Process“. The lengthy memo updates surveyor guidance, including the Critical Element Pathways of:

QAPI / QAA
Pain Recognition and Management
Respiratory Care
Unnecessary Medications / Medication Regimen Review
Hospitalization
Accidents
Resident Assessment
Discharge

The effective date will be February 24th, 2025. AHCA has prepared educational materials to help members understand the upcoming changes, available from the ahcancalED library “Preparing for Upcoming CMS Guidance Changes: Key Updates and Action Items for Compliance“
